How Geothermal Works

We all know that summer in Houston is unbearably hot. But right below the ground, that’s not the case. Here’s how heating and cooling works via geothermal!

Geothermal Heating

The sun infuses the Earth’s crust with its heat energy. Forty-seven percent of that energy is stored in the ground as heat. Water Furnace geothermal installations utilize this energy potential using an earth loop system; taking advantage this free heat for your home. This innovative technology uses the sun’s heat that the earth has readily stored to condition your home or office. In the heating cycle, a Water Furnace geothermal heat pump employs the earth loop system to draw the heat from the ground. Delivery through a classic duct system, the geothermal system draws heat from the loops and distributes it as warm air. Other choices are available to use that same heating energy to provide hot water heating and radiant floor heat.

Geothermal Cooling

The heating process is reversed in the cooling mode – creating cool, conditioned air all through the home. Instead of extracting heat from the ground, heat is taken from the air in your home and either moved back into the earth loop, or used to preheat the water in your hot water tank.

Geothermal and the Environment

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy ascertained that geothermal heat pumps are the most eco-friendly friendly and cost efficient way to heat and cool your house. Geothermal installations emit no carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or other potentially harmful greenhouse gasses. Geothermal Water Furnace units are truly a natural green way of life.

Converting Your Home to Geothermal Energy

Geothermal systems are a great alternative for the replacement of older or inefficient HVAC equipment in the Houston, Texas area. Most units are simple to install and can be installed in spaces that would typically be unsuitable for HVAC equipment. Because no combustion takes place, there is no need to vent exhaust gasses which means geothermal equipment can be installed virtually anywhere.

The vast majority of homes can instantly enjoy the full benefit one our geothermal systems.
